Ben Affleck is Batman!

Disclaimer: you can critic and criticize this all you want. This is the expression of a die hard Batman fan. Ask anyone and they will will tell you. This is my take on the news of Ben Affleck as Batman.*

As we all know, at comic con this year Zach Snyder was introduced as the man doing this team up film. We heard a line from frank millers The Dark Knight Returns. Saw a logo. Albeit a horrible one in my opinion. This led to speculation that a batman reboot is happening, and that we will not get a true MoS sequel right now, bummer.

Anyways, there was speculation as to who would play this role. Whether or not real rumors, of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or Christian Bale as Batman would happen to tie on the Nolanverse. Which I'm glad it isn't. Nolan's take was good, but flawed by the all too "realistic" approach. This left great characters off this series, but that would be another post. Rumors were turning around that Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Jon Hamm, and Richard Armatage were up for the role. Some good choices there, but not the right choice. Why?

Brolin: Phenomenal actor. Jonah Hex wasn't his fault it was the script and directors fault. This guy could be believe able as both Bruce and Batman.

Gosling: A huge no. Albeit he has been in some good roles, but only believable as Bruce. Too much of a pretty boy. However he has some star power.

Hamm: A TV actor many don't know about. He is great in the period piece Mad Men. He was up for both the role of Batman before Bale got it, same with the superman one before Cavill got it. Might have been good, but not enough star power. As a minor character like, a Harvey dent would be good.

Armatage: recently seen in the Hobbit. He has the nerd/geek culture behind him. But not too relatively known in a lead role here in America for WB to bank on.

Now onto our next Batman, Ben Affleck. He has the star power and a string of recent hit movies. An academy award winner. Something that gives this project an added bit of credibility in different ways. Yes, we may disagree about him. Bale had hatred before filling the role, and now every one wants him and his throat cancer to be Batman. Affleck is more believable as a playboy then Bale. An actor who has had recent success in directing movies. This is where my thoughts come into play.

If this is a reboot of Batman on film, them we would get Snyder's view of Batman and not the director taking it over. Affleck as we know was hired on as Batman. Maybe just maybe he will be the director for the next series. Thus a smart choice in bringing him in to help with a joint Batman vision. That would be a good move. Bringing in the director to help with your reboot. Even if it means Affleck, had to be cast in order for them to use him. He is from Boston, and could use that and New York as a background for his Batman, who is supposedly based in that area.

Before we bash the choice of Affleck, remember as comic fans we think we know what is right for our favorite comic hero all I ask is that we give them the benefit of a doubt. They know more than we do, and we may as well be presently surprised.

Stay tuned for my thoughts on the next rebooted Batman movie series.

Dropping the Ball

When you hear of dropping the ball what do you think of? Do you think of the literal dropping of a ball from your grasp? Or do you think of a blunder you made? Maybe you failed at something and you feel bad for dropping it.

Just recently I did this, and it was this blog. I wanted to take the social media world by storm and I literally dropped the ball myself. Recently, just upgrade my smart phone, and with apps and widgets I was set, or so I thought. I had my Facebook, Twitter, Google + widgets set, and I was ready to roll. I just recently got back on Twitter, but this blog, a form of social media was  left behind. That was until today.

I was talking with a fellow in the Children's Ministry world, and he said I was slacking. So I decided why not give it another chance. Then I was reminded that God gives us a second chance. God gave Jonah a prophecy for Ninevah. What did Jonah do? We all know what he did he ran from what God told him to do. He dropped his ball. God gave him a second chance.

Now if you have recently dropped the ball on something in your life, turn to God and he will give you that second chance to run with the ball not drop it.
